This week I had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene, about their two weddings—the first an intimate ceremony at Malibu’s Serra Retreat and their home, the second an over-the-big-top “Seafoam Circus”-themed extravaganza in Malibu.
The pair met seven years ago at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Arlene was doing makeup for models on the red carpet. Dick asked her to do his makeup for a movie he was starting on, and Arlene eventually became his personal makeup artist on numerous projects. Their friendship blossomed into romance in 2010. Arlene says Dick “asked me to marry him pretty much every day till finally, six months later, I said yes.” Dick jokes that the couple waited until after Arlene’s 40th birthday to marry so that he wouldn’t appear to be robbing the cradle. Arlene laughs, “It was a relief to him because it does sound better than 39!”
On today’s show, the couple shares the stories of both wedding celebrations, along with the inspiration for the Seafoam Circus, details on the myriad ways they customized that event, and advice for anyone planning a wedding with a strong theme.

What an awesome show! I had no idea DVD re-married, but it all looked so spectacular. I love weddings with big bright colors and off-beat details and this one fit the bill. I’m glad they were able to share more about their wedding. I’m not surprised guests didn’t want to leave. It looked like a blast! Plus, you can’t beat a picture with a giant stuffed bear. 😉
Also, Rebel Belle Weddings also coordinated my friend and fellow Disney Bride Mindy’s wedding (from Budget Fairy Tale Blog)! 🙂 It’s a small world after all. 😀
So glad you enjoyed the show, Hope!
