Ashley & Billy’s Fort Wilderness Wedding

This week, Ashley Ricker shares the story of her wedding and reception at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. She and Billy both have long family histories of visiting Fort Wilderness, so it was the natural choice for their wedding. But when she called to inquire about having a Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding there, she was told there were no ceremony options there and her best bet would be to rent a group of campsites and plan the wedding herself. On today’s show, you’ll hear how she accomplished a gorgeous DIY wedding at Fort Wilderness, complete with rustic chic decor and a family-friendly cookout.

  1. I have considered having a small wedding on the balcony of a Bungalow at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort but I was worried that I could get in trouble by not going through DFTW. After watching this podcast, I am thinking that it could be possible. Assuming we could find an officiant who would do it… should I still be weary about doing this?

    1. By all accounts, Disney can’t stop you from doing that in a hotel room you paid for. I would definitely not broadcast what you are doing, especially in Facebook groups and message boards frequented by folks who have paid For Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings. But apparently it happens all the time.

  2. I’m thinking of having a wedding in the fort too! I’m looking at about 50 guests, but I didn’t want to make it obvious and possibly get in trouble and have my day ruined. I thought about renting several sites and doing something similar to what you guys did. Would they allow that? Or would it have to be hush hush? The wedding pictures are beautiful!

    1. Ashley describes how they did it in this episode. Basically, they called around and didn’t get a “no” from anybody at Disney, so they just rented the sites and did it. I wouldn’t make a HUGE deal out of it to other people or Disney though.
