Vintage Episode: How to Rent Disney Vacation Club Points for Your Honeymoon

This week we’re diving into the archives to replay a show that has dropped off iTunes’ 100-episode list but still contains valuable information, especially for those looking to save big on their Walt Disney World or Disneyland honeymoon.

On today’s show, Chrysty Summers and I will show you how to save up to 50% on Disney hotel reservations for your honeymoon, planning session or anniversary trip.

Disney’s “best kept secret” isn’t the Disney Vacation Club, it’s the ability to rent points from club members to stay in Deluxe Disney resorts at a fraction of the rack rate. When a Disney Vacation Club member’s points are due to expire before he or she can use them, often the member will “rent” them out (i.e., use them to make a reservation for another person at a rate based on the number of points required).

Today we’ll explain how the process works and where to find members who can rent you the points you need. We’ll also look at the differences between Disney Vacation Club rooms and regular hotel rooms so you’ll know if point rental is right for you.

Vendor Spotlight: It’s Tasty Too Cakes

Although Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings prohibits the use of outside vendors for food at its events, couples planning events at the Swan & Dolphin, Fulton’s, Coronado Springs, Shades of Green and the hotels of Downtown Disney have the freedom to choose their own wedding cake baker. Likewise, those having Memories Collection events, which do not include cake, or celebrating an anniversary or an engagement may also be interested in some non-Disney options for having a cake delivered to a restaurant or a resort.

On today’s show, I chat with Heather Michaud, owner of It’s Tasty Too, who has provided cakes for numerous events around Walt Disney World. She shares tips on pricing, trends, and flavors; explains the rules surrounding cake designs, especially those incorporating Disney characters; offers advice for those who want to preserve their top layer; and explains how to communicate your wedding cake vision to your baker.

Whether you’re headed to Walt Disney World to propose, elope or celebrate an anniversary, Private Dining at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa can help you plan a romantic private event for two in an out-of-the-way spot at the hotel. On today’s show, I cover the basics of planning one of these events, and then guest Tracy Brooks shares details of the two dinners she’s held at the Grand Floridian, complete with custom desserts, a view of the Electrical Water Pageant and fireworks!
